Point Chevalier resident Susan Battye\u2019s newest title in Scholastic New Zealand\u2019s<\/a> popular My New Zealand Story series, Cup Magic<\/em>, was launched at an event at Pt Chev Bookshop and Resource Room<\/a> on Thursday 6 June at 7pm.<\/p>\n

On the 13th<\/sup> May, 1995, Peter Montgomery entered the annals of our history with his iconic announcement \u2013 \u2018The America\u2019s Cup is New Zealand\u2019s cup!\u2019<\/p>\n

It was certainly one of NZ\u2019s proudest sporting moments: the culmination of years of work by a dedicated team of sailors, designers, sailmakers, sponsors \u2013 everyone who contributed to Team NZ during the campaign.<\/p>\n

As we gear up for another America\u2019s Cup challenge, this time in San Francisco, Susan\u2019s book is timely, giving a new generation the chance to experience a behind-the-scenes look at some of the things involved in building the boats and mounting such a challenge, from a child\u2019s point of view.<\/p>\n

The launch was attended by local booklovers, children and adults alike, as well as the author\u2019s family and friends. All listened intently as Susan read an excerpt from the story and talked about the many months of research that went into the book, from visits to museums and sailmakers to interviews with former sailors and Team New Zealand members. In the course of her research Susan even ventured out on the water, though in a boat not quite as impressive as Black Magic<\/em> \u2013 but if she were able to, she\u2019d surely seize the opportunity!<\/p>\n

My New Zealand Story: Cup Magic<\/em> is available in all good bookstores and retails at $18.50.<\/p>\n
